In few minutes, Abdulwahab (47 years old) carried with him the pictures of his dad and his grandparents. He was forced to leave his big house.
He didn’t think on which wall he will be hanging his pictures. And, he didn’t care about that. What matters for him today is that the pictures were folded in the memories box among the few stuff that his family possesses now.
How difficult it is for Abdulwahab to leave the house that he built with his own hands, to leave his land and the land of his forefathers, and that his town is emptied of its residents.
Abdulwahab says: “We left our roots, our land, and our ancestors lands. And, there is no one of us left to walk in that spot”.
Along with his wife and four children, Abdulahwab has been displaced forcibly to a new land that they don’t know it.
This displacement occurred after the violent shelling that targeted the civilians in the villages of Maarat Al-Numan, south of Idlib.
The escalation of violence has caused the killing of tens of civilians and the displacements of hundreds of families. Some villages were emptied fully of its residents, who left behind them all their possession and memories under the rubble.
Today, Abdulwahab lives in a thin tent after reaching the Qah camps in Northern Syria. He was separated of his family and beloved ones. His home today can not accommodate the rest of his family members and his loved ones except in the form of pictures hanged on its fabric walls.
The number of displaced people reached 300,000 in only December 2019, due to the escalation of the barbaric bombing targeting civilians everywhere in Maarat al-Numan, the majority of whom are children and women whose fate is uncertain and are denied of their basic rights which put their lives and future at huge risk.
It is clear that the international community is being careless about the continuing violations of humanitarian and International laws as the Humanitarian Law, that obliges all states parties, to protect the civilian population, women and children from targeting in the armed conflicts areas.
People in #Idlib need us to spread the word so the whole world bears witness and so decision-makers are held responsible for ending this humanitarian catastrophe.
