“Abu Ahmed”, displaced from the countryside of Hama, who and his family reside in a camp in the north of Syria, used to suffer long in order to bring water to his home. Sometimes, when outside the house, his children and family take over to fetch water. Moreover, Garbage spreads and waste accumulates in the camp due to the lack of containers, causing epidemics and diseases, especially with water shortages.
Ataa has responded to many camps through the Water, Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene Project, by digging wells, deporting garbage, installing toilet blocks and monitoring their hygiene, especially in locations that are difficult to access from any sustainable water system, and improving access to water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Now Abu Ahmed, and many displaced people, are able to access clean drinking water, their life conditions have improved, and their children no longer need to go many distances in order to fetch water.
